A little harsh, my husband is a journalist, although entertainment not science, but I do wish they’d be more careful with their wording and explain concepts and statistics better rather than go for the scare.

I put up headlines and articles and we talk about them, then I give them a few to read and evaluate with leading questions about who did the study, what the data says, and assessing the credibility. I try to mention news articles as they happen as quick notes in class as well.

LOL this completelly described my initiation to Doctor Who. One beautiful morning, i just started watching it and now I can’t stop. The other main thing, along with cosplays and theories, is the insane amount of merchandise available and great fan-made products. Who wouldnt want a 10th doctor in plush? On the spoilers thing, pinterest boards are also something to be avoided.

Er… about that. While “Alzheimer’s and Parkinsons’s” are the go to default justification for any brain-related research (see http://neurodojo.blogspot.com/2013/02/neuroscience-because-alzheimers.html), it’s more likely that a more realistic goal is new technologies for neurophysiology.

Notice how many times he talks about “tools’ and “technology.” And note how he smartly downplays the “cure teh diseazes!11!!” prospects.
